Women playwrights are invited to submit original work for consideration for rehearsed readings during the International Women Playwrights Conference. May 2000, Athens, Greece. Guidelines: Please send 2 copies of a description or synopsis (not to exceed one page) and a script excerpt (not to exceed ten pages.) Actors provided by the conference are fluent in Greek or English, therefore texts in Greek, English (or translations) are sought. We apologise that texts in languages other than English can only be read in their original languages if their playwright is able to bring her own actors or read her own work. A one-page Greek or English synopsis must be provided (translation service may be available.) Incomplete submissions, or those exceeding the page length stipulation will not be considered. Please write your play title on both the description/synopsis and the script excerpt. Please do not send in entire play texts. Submissions will not be returned, but will be acknowledged. Please submit a self-addressed postcard (postage will be applied in Greece)

Buffalo in 1988, Toronto in 1991, Adelaide in 1994, Galway in 1997 and, now, Athens in May 2000 with the possibility of a ceremony at Delphi! Celebrate and investigate the work, comments and perspectives of women of different races, cultures, ages, sexual identities and backgrounds, and many different ways of creating performance and theatre. Conference Director, Aliki Bacopoulou-Halls, is Associate Professor at the University of Athens and Director of the Hellenic Centre of the International Theatre Institute. "Come and meet the Modern Greece and enjoy the hospitality offered in the spirit of 'philoxenia' (a love for foreigners.)" Your input is welcomed as part of the exciting work of creating a truly international women playwrights organisation which aims to continue holding the international conferences, and to provide support for women playwrights, theatre practitioners and scholars, including exchange of work and ideas, and support for those struggling against political persecution. Accreditation for the new organisation is being sought with UNESCO (United Nations Economic Scientific and Cultural Organisation.) Please join the women playwrights, performers, directors, scholars and other theatre workers to create an international network and dialogue. Benefits of membership: News bulletin twice a year; a 20% discount on the 2000 Conference; your name on the list of charter members; the right to nominate representatives to the International Advisory Committee; and, the good feeling that you'll be helping seed the fund raising efforts for the 2000 Conference and its outreach to women world-wide. Membership is for 3 years and costs $(US)45; $(US)25 Student/low income; $(US)75 Institutional Membership (NB: Only one conference discount per Institutional Membership.) Individuals can pay with three annual instalments of $(US)15 each. Additional donations are very welcome!
